Gallery History
Our philosophy is "A Masterpiece that could be Yours."
We take pride in two major cornerstone elements of our gallery's history. Firstly, we are the original creators of the Thai "portraits and reproductions" art business model. This model is now prevalent throughout art galleries in Thailand. Secondly, we are the original creators of the concept that captures Thai "Buddhism-inspired" faces onto a canvas oil painting; particularly, "Buddha faces" that are abstractions of Buddha-like (and/or) man-like face, and using a multi-colored palette and sophisticated impressionist techniques to bring the canvas to life.
Many of our long-time customers know and recall that during the 1990's until the mid 2000's, Europe and many parts of the world were seeing a "boom" in the demand for new reproductions of classic European and American paintings from Van Gogh's to Edward Hopper's. We have always been proud to say that our company of talented Thai artists were responsible for supplying much of this global demand.
Since 1987, The Modern Thai Art Gallery, being the first art gallery in Koh Samui, has delivered top-quality artwork for an international clientele.
We specialize in original Thai art (still lifes, Buddhism-inspired), abstracts, and custom made-to-order portraits or reproductions.
Renowned “Artists in Residence” produce some of our paintings accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Our stock also includes a vast selection of decorative pieces ideal for your home or personal collection.
In-house Portrait Artists gladly welcome requests for individual, family, pets, and other paintings.
